A seminar on “Mechanism and Assessment of Landslides” was held by the Key Laboratory of the China Earthquake Administration

2018/5/30 0:00:00

To promote academic exchange and international cooperation between experts worldwide and the research followers of the Institute of Geology and the Key Laboratory of the China Earthquake Administration, a seminar on the mechanism and assessment of earthquake-triggered landslides of 2018 was held by the Key Laboratory. Foreign researchers from the Netherlands and Greece and domestic researchers and students from the Institute of Geomechanics, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Beijing Forestry University, and China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing attended the meeting. Researcher Xu Chong introduced the aim of the seminar and welcomed everyone. Six researchers or students from the Institute of Geology gave oral or poster presentations; in addition, six scholars from other institutes delivered oral presentations.
All the representatives exchanged information and discussed problems concerning the global inventories of earthquake-triggered landslides; paleo-landslides; mechanisms, model building and simulation of large landslides in seismically active areas; rapid assessment, landslide evolution and the seismic landslides related to the 2015 Nepal and the 2017 Jiuzhaigou earthquakes; and InSAR technology and its application to landslides and quantitative risk assessment of rockfalls. The seminar has laid a solid foundation for future cooperation and further academic exchange between the attendees.
