The Key Laboratory of Active Tectonics and Volcano of China Earthquake Administration has become an international collaboration unit of the UNESCO Chair project. On April 21, 2018, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Chair on Geoenvironmental Disaster Reduction (ICGdR Chair) granted the Key Laboratory of Active Tectonics and Volcano of China Earthquake Administration a Certificate of International Cooperation. The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chair project was set up by UNESCO, and was formally established at the 26th General Assembly in 1992. The aim of the project is to create a network of universities and research institutions, thus enhancing the development of higher education in research, training and program systems, and ultimately strengthening the research and education ability of international universities and research institutes. Currently, the project has 700 chairs in the field of natural science across 117 countries and regions. UNESCO is one of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs in facing geological and environmental disasters. The chair is dedicated to advancing global collaboration between education and scientific research on geological and environmental disaster mitigation. Based on the UNESCO-Chair project platform, extensive, in-depth international cooperation will be conducted between the various collaborating units; this will also obviously promote international communication and cooperation by the Key Laboratory of Active Tectonics and Volcano of China Earthquake Administration.
