On February 15th, the Institute of Geology held a report meeting for returned overseas students supported by the project “Cultivating young talents of earthquake science and technology”. More than 70 staff and graduates of the institute attended the meeting.

Senior visiting scholar Chen Jiuhui, visiting scholars Zhang Huiping, Wang Weitao, and Zhang Zhuqi, joint PhDs Li Kang, Chen Zhengquan and Wang Yizhou presented their reports, respectively. The contents of the reports included the experience and attentions of the choice of suitable schools before going abroad, contacting foreign co-advisors, preparing scientific data and study procedures and precautions; how to communicate with foreign advisors and researchers when they studied abroad; work habits of foreign researchers, experiences of participation in academic activities, field work, course learning, advanced technology and methods learned, progress and achievements of scientific research and tips for adapting to foreign life; necessary procedures before returning and continual cooperation with foreign advisors after back home.

In particular, two twice-dispatched staff members introduced in detail the differences between the first and the second times in scientific research, study and life abroad, what outstanding scientific research achievements have been achieved, sharing their experience through  summarizing their experiences and lessons, and giving suggestions for other people who are planning to go abroad.

After the report, the participants exchanged ideas on how to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries, focused issues in research fields and future development directions.
