Invited by Researcher Min Wang,Researcher KelinWangfrom Pacific Geoscience Centre, Geological Survey of Canada visited IGL for Academic Exchange in June 2016.

Researcher Kelin Wangfocuses mainly ongeodynamics of subduction zones and relatedearthquake and tsunami hazards, involving deformation, stress, and heat flow at subduction zones, thermal structure of lithosphere, and effects of fluid incrust. Hehas made outstanding achievementsin associated fields.

During hisvisit, Researcher Kelin Wang and Researcher Min Wang have made detailed and thoroughdiscussion on their project supported by NSFC– “Effects of great subduction earthquakesof western Pacific on stress and strain fields of North China”. In addition, a report titled “Study of great subduction earthquakes: Recent discoveries and challenges” was givenin IGL. The report introduced their latest discoveryaboutthe ruptures of the 2010 Japanese Tohoku-oki earthquake by constraints ofsubmarine topographydata, and meanwhile interpreted in details the relevancebetween great earthquakesand seamountsat subduction zones.

This exchange provided a wider perspective and may inspire new ideas forresearch of inland earthquakes.
