2016/6/7 14:35:05

At the invitation of the Prof. Shan Xinjian, the Prof. Hu Zhiqing from the Department of Geosciences, Taiwan University visited the Institute of Geology for academic communication on February 25, 2016, and gave us an academic report titled “co-seismic surface deformation and inducing mechanism of 2016 Meinong Earthquake, Taiwan”. The report mainly presents the aftershock activity, co-seismic deformation observed by GPS/InSAR, the involved area revealed by seismic ground motion, fault slip distribution, source rupture process, and inducing mechanism etc..In addition, he briefly introduce the very complex geologic tectonic setting of Taiwan, overthrust orogenic belt, Stratigraphic lithology, shortening deformation accomodating by argillite folds in SouthTaiwan and disastrous earthquakes in modern Taiwan. Through the communication, we have an in-depth understanding of the deformation characteristics and seismogenic mechanism of the Meinong Earthquake.

The Prof. Hu Zhiqing communicated and discussed with the researchers in our institute
