At the invitation of Researcher Xu Xiwei, four scientists from French Ecole Normale Super Paris including Associate Professor Julia de Sigoyer visited China from August 8 to 22, 2013. They carried out field work along the Longriba fault zone at the western foot of Longmen Mountains and its neighboring areas. Researcher Xu Xiwei, Research Assistant Tan Xibin and some other people of our institute were responsible to receive them.

The team led by Associate Professor Julia de Sigoyer has been engaged in the research of the active tectonics and neotectonics on the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau in the last ten years and published a series of relevant papers in international important periodicals in the recent years. This field work has three purposes: (1) Study the granite in and near the Longriba fault, collect samples of surrounding rock (metamorphic rock) and analyze experienced temperature and pressure; (2) Collect thermochronological sections in the research area and a series of samples at elevations 2500~5000m to analyze Cenozoic erosion history; (3) Collect optically stimulated luminescence samples of lacustrine sediment and measure terrace age.

Researcher Xu Xiwei, Research Assistant Tan Xibin, Wei Leiming and Zhao Shiliang of our institute and Wang Mingming from Sichuan Earthquake Administration also attended this field study. The field mostly is sparsely populated plateau. The field team faced inconvenient traffic, plateau hypoxia and other difficulties. In order to study faults and collect samples, they often walked 7-8 hours on the plateau with an elevation of 4000-5000m. Through joint effort of the scientific research personnel of the two sides, they fulfilled the goal of this field work. Moreover, the scientific research personnel of the two sides conducted in-depth academic exchange and discussion during field work. After the field study, at the invitation of Sichuan Earthquake Administration, they made academic exchange with the faculty of Engineering of Sichuan Earthquake Administration and Prof. Li Yong from Chengdu University of Technology.
