The 2019 work of the 1:10,000 urban active fault exploration project in Songpan County is progressing successfully

From November 2 to 5, 2019, the annual field work meeting of the 1:10,000 urban active fault survey project of Songpan County, Sichuan Province sponsored by the Institute of Geology, China EarthquakeAdministration and co-organized by the Sichuan Institute of Geological Engineering InvestigationGroup Co., Ltd. was held in Songpan County (photos 1 and 2). More than 30 experts, leaders, and representatives from the Sichuan Earthquake Administration, the Aba Prefecture Earthquake Administration, the Songpan Earthquake Prevention and Mitigation Administration, the Chengdu Hydrogeology Engineering Geology Center of the Sichuan Geology and Mineral Development Administration, Geological Team 108 of the Sichuan Geology and Mineral Development Administration, the Sichuan Institute of Geological Engineering InvestigationGroup Co., Ltd., and the Institute of Geology,China Earthquake Administration, including Wang Shuming, Zhou Wei, Zhou Rongjun, PengJinchuan, He Liang, Wang Xiangdong, and LuoZhihong, attended the meeting.

The meeting was presided over by the project leader, researcher Han Zhujun, and experts and leaders attending the meeting conducted on-site investigation on typical geological and geomorphic manifestations of the Minjiang Fault, outcrop sections of faults, a paleoearthquake sounding trough, Quaternary standard drilling, Quaternary strata, and the sedimentary features of different geomorphic units. The attendees agreed that the undertaking units of the Songpan 1:10,000 urban active fault exploration project made a breakthrough in the 2019 work, with relatively reliable evidence obtained of late Quaternary activity of the Minjiang Fault (photo 3).According to the requirements of the implementation plan, the project team carried out various tasks in an orderly manner, with solid efficiency and remarkable results, meeting the requirements of the annual work, which laid a good foundation for the steady progress of the work in the next stage of the project.
