Established by the Chinese Geophysical Society, this award is given once a year to five to 10 young Chinese geophysicists who have made outstanding achievements in geophysics in the past five years. The aim of the award is to encourage the innovative work of young geophysicists (under 45 years of age) who love their country, have the scientific spirit of “dedication, innovation, truth-seeking, and collaboration” and excellent professional ethics, and promote basic and applied research in geophysics.

Wei Wei is an associate research fellow and master tutor. He is mainly engaged in basic and theoretical seismology research. His research interests are earthquake wave imaging and geodynamics. His research involves the structure and deformation of the lithosphere in mainland China, the mechanism of strong earthquakes, the structure and dynamics of subduction zones, and the deep structure and origins of active intraplate volcanoes. By 2019, he had published 14 international scientific papers in Scientific Reports; Earth and Planetary ScienceLetters; the Journal of Geophysical Research; Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems; and other journals, with a total of more than 680 citations, two of these articles were selected aspapers with high citing rate of the journals Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors and the Journal of Asian Earth Sciences. He has presided over the Surface Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Youth Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, a special sub-project of earthquake research, and other research projects. He has been invited to review more than 60 articles for Earth and Planetary Science Letters; the Journal of Geophysical Research; Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems; Surveys in Geophysics; Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors; Tectonophysics; the Journal of Asian Earth Science; International Geology Review; and other international academic journals. He was recognized with the 2017 Certificate of Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing from Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors. He is also a communication evaluation expert of the National Natural Science Foundation of Chinaand the Youth Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
