2017 Academic Meeting of the Institute of Geology, CEA

On February 15, 2017, the Institute of Geology held an annual conference in theacademic hall. The research highlights of 2016 were presented to promote the exchange and communication among the scientific researchers, and enhance the overall ability of scientific research of the institute. More than 140 people, including the directors, academicians, researchers and graduate students, attended this academic conference. This meeting also attracted attention of dozens of researchers from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and the Institute of Earthquake Forecasting, China Earthquake Administration.

Director Ma Shengli presided over this conference. He briefly reviewed the achievements of the scientific research w of the institute in 2016, pointing out that young researchers have become the backbone of scientific research outputs in our institute. In 2016, 46 articles were published by researchers under the age of 40, accounting for 82% of the total 56 international SCI articles by the whole institute. The academic reports were mainly given by the young scientists, including Zhang Huiping, Wang Weitao, Wei Wei, Zhang Guohong, Lu Yao, and Xu Chong, who made outstanding achievements in recent years in the scientific research, the publishment of international SCI papers, and the research projects. It is hoped that the other young researchers and students to study from them and communicate with them.

Then the six young researchers gave their reports successively, entitled "The episodic exhumation process and geomorphic evolution in the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau”, “ Late Cenozoic deformation process of the Qilian Mountains in the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau”, “Deep structure and deformation characteristics of China mainland and adjacent areas”, “Joint inversion of space geodesy and seismic wave data for earthquake rupture process”, “Vital role of frictional heating in fault dynamic weakening: insights from different high-speed friction experiments of rock under varied temperatures" and "Earthquake landslide inventories: examples and applications", serving as exchange of new achievements and new ideas with their colleagues. These reports were brilliant and the researchers asked questions actively and discussed enthusiastically and achieved the objectives expected.
