2017 Annual Meeting of the Key Laboratory of Active Tectonics and Volcanology, CEA

2017/10/18 16:48:12

Earthquakes in China are frequent, intensive, widely distributed, with shallow sources, and thus cause severe disasters. Thus, reducing earthquake hazard as much as possible is the demand of the significant strategic for realizing the goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way. To promote the discipline of Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology in China, show the latest research results, and to explore the direction and focuses of this discipline in the future, the Committee on Earthquake Geology of the Seismological Society of China and the Key Laboratory of Active Tectonics and Volcanology, China Earthquake Administration jointly held the 2017 Annual Meeting on Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology on January 16, 2017. Over 100 research scientists from more than 10 institutions including Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhejiang University, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, CNPC system and other institutions of China Earthquake Administration attended the meeting. Focusing on the general theme of Active Tectonics, Active Volcanoes, and Earthquake Geology, discussed issues involved seismotectonic models and seismogenic mechanisms, causes of active volcanoes, volcanic safety evaluation of nuclear plants, quantitative activity parameters of active faults, medium- and long-term seismological hazard, and evolution of landforms in tectonically active regions. With its wonderful content, active atmosphere, and deep discussion, the annual meeting won a good assessment by participants.
