A workshop on the progress and work plan in 2017 of the project of "Three-dimensional segmentation model of seismotectonics and earthquake prediction research of the Tanlu fault zone" was held in Beijing on April 5-6, 2017. Deputy director of Department of Monitoring and Forecasting, CEA Che Shi, Director of Forecasting Division Zhang Yong, deputy director of Seismic Hazard Prevention Department Li Yishi, Director Zhang Liming and the chief scientist of the project Xu Xiwei attended the meeting.

Deputy director Che Shi reviewed the earthquake history of the Tanlu fault zone and its importance, and talked about the current severe situation of earthquakes in the mainland China. He hoped that the project team will be able help the preparation for potential major earthquakes on the Tanlu fault zone while completing the scientific research, and gave a detailed interpretation of urgency and importance on this issue. Deputy director Li Yishi emphasized the significance of this work from the angle of the disaster defense and also hoped that the research results can be applied to earthquake prevention and served economy and social construction and development. Researcher Xu Xiwei put forward several requirements and suggestions for the work of the project in 2017.

In the subsequent section of the meeting, 11 experts of the project from Anhui Earthquake Agency, Institute of Geophysics, Institute of Geology, Institute of Crustal Dynamics, the first Monitoring and Application Center, the second Monitoring and Application Center and University of Science and Technology of China made speeches, respectively. Their reports covered the overview, progress, stage results, the work plan and existing problems in 2017 on the different sub-projects. After listening to these reports, the panel pointed out the problems in the implementation of each sub-project and put forward some detailed suggestions and feasible rectification schemes.
