“Exploration of Urban Active Faults” Project (Batch 1) Execution Review Meeting was held in Yangzhou, Jiangsu

On November 18-19, 2015, a meeting for review of ongoing “exploration of urban active faults” project was held in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. The meeting was organized by CEA Institute of Geology and co-organized by Earthquake Administration of Jiangsu Province and Earthquake Administration of Yangzhou City under the entrustment of CEA Earthquake Damage Prevention Department. Li Yishi, the Deputy Director of CEA Earthquake Damage Prevention Department, Ni Yuewei, Director-General of Earthquake Administration of Jiangsu Province, researcher Xu Xiwei, the chief scientist of “exploration of urban active faults” project and the Deputy Director of CEA Institute of Geology, and some other experts and leaders were present at the meeting.

In the opening speech, Deputy Director Li Yishi delivered the gist of the 2015 national working conference for earthquake damage prevention and put forth overall requirements for the work of “exploration of urban active faults”. He required all responsible organizations and task undertaking organizations to make joint effort for urban earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation in China. In his speech, Director-General Ni Yuewei expressed thanks to all the experts participating the work “exploration of urban active faults” of Jiangsu Province or attending this conference, and hoped the expert group to give valuable opinions in the subsequent reporting, guide and promote acceleration of “exploration of urban active faults” of Jiangsu Province and bring benefit to mankind. In his speech, Researcher Xu Xiwei elaborated the significance of “exploration of urban active faults” project to the progress of geosciences, earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation, underlined key points and technical requirements in project implementation process and hoped the participants from all sides to keep in mind “Exploration of Active Faults DB/T 15-2009” earthquake industry standard, work in a down-to-earth manner in project implementation process and have a sense of crisis all the time. He also gave some ideas on how to expand “exploration of urban active faults” project after its implementation is completed, how to monitor and research the discovered active faults, and how to commercialize achievements so that they can be applied in urban planning and construction.

During meeting in the subsequent two days, seven workgroups of “exploration of urban active faults” project from Taizhou, Yangzhou, Suqian, Lianyungang, Hefei, Xinxiang and Weinan reported in details thework summary, technical proposal, organizational management, progress, phased achievements, data summary, work plan for next step and existing problems of the project. After carefully reading work reports and listening to on-the-spot reporting, the expert groups pointed out the problems during implementation of the project and put forward detailed implementation opinions and feasible improvement plans. After the reporting was completed, the expert groups and project implementation workgroups also summarized project progress and discussed how to link project achievements with application so as to raise the ability of a city in earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation and serve local economic development.
