To systematically sum up the experiences of China Earthquake Administration in key lab construction and operation, get the whole picture of lab operation management, and give full play to its role as base of the seismological technological innovation system, the Department of Science and Technology, China Earthquake Administration organized experts to conduct on-site inspection and evaluation to the Key Lab for Active Tectonics and Volcanoes of the Institute of Geology (IGL) on September 10, 2015. The expert group comprised of scholars from China Earthquake Administration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping Sciences, Tsinghua University and Peking University.

The key lab director Xu Xiwei briefed the expert group the overall orientation and research direction of the lab. He reported the achievements the lab made in scientific research since its establishment, personnel construction, and cooperation and exchanges with foreign counterparts. He also listed information on equipment operation and maintenance and sharing, use of special funds, and its contribution to in social and economic development and national security.

When the report was over, the expert group paid a site visit to the research centers and laboratory rooms of the key lab. The heads of the centers and laboratory rooms made reports on their work, including site and equipment conditions, personnel and management systems. Having heard the reports on lab operation environments and performances, the expert group deemed that the research center for active faults and active volcanoes of the key lab were characteristic in China’s geo-scientific sector. They spoke highly of the lab in hardware conditions and personnel allocation.
