Electromagnetic monitoring of the Lushan earthquake by Institute of Geology

2014/5/27 10:31:30

Under the precondition of careful preparation of all members of the electromagnetic group, Tang Ji, Wang Lifeng, Cheng Yuanzhi and Han Bing formed a field electromagnetic monitoring group on May 1, 2013.  Carrying three sets of magnetotelluric (MT) instruments, they went to the Lushan earthquake region on the same day to monitor the aftershocks of the Lushan “4.20” Ms 7.0 earthquake. On May 2 and 3, they chose three MT survey points in Zhongli Town, Yucheng District, Yaan City, Shuangshi Town of Lushan and Baosheng Township, respectively. The sites in Shuangshi Town and Zhongli Town have been used to be the monitoring points for field MT observations after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, and now are mainly for measurement and study of resistivity variations before and after earthquakes.
