On July 23-25, 2013, the project for risk assessment of the key earthquake monitoring and prevention areas of China taken charge of by Researcher Xu Xiwei from the Institute of Geology held an annual work inspection meeting in Taiyuan, Shanxi. The eight invited experts from relevant fields, leaders of competent departments and offices of CEA, task leaders and backbones in total of more than 30 people attended the meeting. Zhang Liming, the Director of the Disaster Prevention Infrastructure Division, Earthquake Disaster Prevention Department, CEA presided over the meeting. Guo Xingquan, the Deputy Director of Shanxi Earthquake Administration was present and made a speech at the meeting.

During the meeting, 21 task teams reported in details their work progress, use of funds, plans in next step and encountered technical difficulties and accepted the questioning of the expert panel. After the report, Researcher Xu Xiwei expressed four hopes on the tasks: (1) The collection of age samples should give more stress on carbon samples and avoid long waiting time consumed by dating process of luminescence samples. (2) The input of database and the work of each task should be synchronous. (3) It should be more accurate in the search for faults and selection of excavation sites of exploratory trenches, and the geometric structures and characteristics of normal, reverse and strike-slip faults may be utilized to make initial judgment and help demarcate spatial positions of exploratory trenches. (4) Some tasks overlap in working areas. The task leaders should make clear their work targets, tell the difference between charting work and activity identification and avoid repetitive work.

The expert panel of the meeting gave concrete review opinions and work suggestions on each task. These opinions and suggestions will be distributed to every unit in form of an official letter to guide the work in next step.
